Prairie Dog Management

RES biologists are in the forefront of black-tailed prairie dog and shortgrass prairie research and management.

We have built a solid reputation in nearly every aspect of black-tailed prairie dog research:  biology, behavior, habitat characteristics, population analysis and monitoring, associated species identification and management, stakeholder identification and public process, impact mitigation, and development of adaptive management strategies.

We are also leaders in the application of practical management techniques.

The political climate surrounding prairie dog management is well known.  Although some consultants have a vague appreciation of how to approach these problems, and although bodies of concerned citizens have definite ideas on what should be done, this is a sensitive matter that should be addressed by competent scientists.  Only those with training in wildlife management and a strong background in prairie dog issues know the ramifications of poorly developed population estimates, habitat assessments, property designations, and management plans.  RES is the only company that has dealt not only with the complex issues surrounding prairie dog ecology and management, but also with the public process side of management planning and decision-making.
